The successful forecast of Hurricane Irene from its travels across the Bahamas and up and along the east coast of the United States needs to be widely appreciated and applauded!
This forecast was based on a suite of numerical weather prediction models which provided a solid basis for predicting its track and intensity. Radar and satellite provided detailed real-time information.
Many lives have been saved by this outstanding service by this federal agency.
